Description

Ensure Block Storage volumes that hold important data have a recent snapshot or volume backup, taken on a regular schedule, so the data can be restored after accidental deletion, corruption, or ransomware.

Rationale

Block Storage volumes are not backed up automatically. If a volume is deleted, corrupted, or encrypted by ransomware, the data is lost without a backup. Regular snapshots or backups make sure data can be restored and support recovery point objectives.

Impact

  • Volume data can be restored after loss

  • Supports recovery objectives

  • Snapshots and backups are billed by storage used

Default Value

By default, Block Storage volumes have no snapshots or backups.

Pre-Requisites

  • Permission to manage Block Storage in the Public Cloud project

  • A defined backup schedule
