Description
Ensure each Public Cloud Database service runs on a plan whose automatic backup retention meets the organization's recovery requirements. For example, Essential plans keep backups for 2 days, Business for 14 days, and Enterprise for 30 days on many engines.
Rationale
Backups can only restore data within the retention period. If an incident is discovered after the backups have expired, the data cannot be recovered. Choosing a plan with enough retention makes sure the database can be restored when needed.
Impact
Data can be restored within the required period
Supports recovery and compliance requirements
Higher plans cost more
Default Value
Backup retention depends on the plan: on PostgreSQL and MySQL, 2 days for Essential, 14 days for Business, and 30 days for Enterprise.
Pre-Requisites
Permission to manage the database service
Agreed backup retention requirements
