Description
Ensure production Public Cloud Database services use a plan with more than one node, such as Business (2 nodes) or Enterprise (3 nodes), so the database stays available if a node fails.
Rationale
A single-node database stops working if that node fails or is being maintained, causing an outage for every application that depends on it. Multi-node plans keep standby nodes ready to take over, which improves availability for production workloads.
Impact
The database stays available if a node fails
Reduces downtime during maintenance
Multi-node plans cost more
Default Value
The Essential plan uses 1 node. Business uses 2 nodes and Enterprise uses 3 nodes on engines such as PostgreSQL.
Pre-Requisites
Permission to manage the database service
Test Plan
Log in to the OVHcloud Control Panel at https://www.ovh.com/manager/.
In the left-hand menu, select Public Cloud and choose your project.
In the left-hand menu, select Databases (under Databases & Analytics), then click the database service to open it.
On the Dashboard tab, check the plan and the number of nodes.
If a production database has only one node, follow the implementation steps.
Implementation Steps
Log in to the OVHcloud Control Panel at https://www.ovh.com/manager/.
In the left-hand menu, select Public Cloud and choose your project.
In the left-hand menu, select Databases (under Databases & Analytics), then click the database service to open it.
Update the plan to Business or Enterprise, or add nodes if the engine supports it.
Confirm that the service is running with multiple nodes.
Backout Plan
Log in to the OVHcloud Control Panel at https://www.ovh.com/manager/.
In the left-hand menu, select Public Cloud and choose your project.
In the left-hand menu, select Databases (under Databases & Analytics), then click the database service to open it.
Change the plan back to the previous one if supported.
